DANIEL HEINSIUS (eigentlich Heins oder Heyns)

geb. 9. Juni 1580 in Gent, gest. 25. Februar 1655 in Leiden

Studierte Philosophie und Rechte in Franeker und Leiden. 1605 Professor der griechischen Sprache und Politik in Leiden, 1607 dort auch Bibliothekar. Er ist bekannt als Herausgeber vieler klassischer Philosophen.

Hauptschriften: Paraphrasis Andronici Rhodii in Aristotelis ethica ad Nicomachum, 1607, auch 1617, 1679, 1809; Aristotelis De poetica liber, 1610, auch 1643; Theophrasti opera graece et latine, 1611, auch 1613; Clemens Alexandrinus opera gr. et lat., 1616 u.ö.; Aristotelis Politicorum libri VIII, 1621, auch 1643; De criticae ortu, progressu et usu, 1646.
