C02: Conceptual shifts: statistical evidence

On the basis of a manual annotation of nominal concept types and an automatic annotation of types of determination in a larger corpus, the project investigates shifts that mediate between nominal concept types from a statistical and a semantic perspective. Differences in frequency of the occurrences of nouns of a given lexical type with determinations of the four possible basic types (absolute, possessive, indefinite, definite) are exploited for a statistical distinction of the conceptual types of nouns. Concomitant with the corpus annotation, conceptual type shifts are identified and analyzed that intervene between lexical meaning and determination. Object languages are German, Polish, and Mandarin.
