B06: Frames in psychiatric classification

Funding period: 01.07.2011 - 30.06.2015

The project deals with the definition and classification of mental disorders using Barsalou's frame theory. Frame theory promises to provide the scaffold for a more systematic and stringent conception and representation of mental disorders. Essential to this project is the analysis of mental disorders based on mental capacities and functions which a person has, such as perception of exterior objects, proprioception, self-consciousness and others. In this way, the project explores these opportunities to establish a novel basis in frame theory for the debate on the classification and conceptualization of mental disorders and to link it to a general theory of the architecture of the mind.
