B02: Dimensional verbs

Funding period: 01.07.2011 - 30.06.2015

Dynamic dimensional verbs encode a change of an object in a well-defined single dimension, such as size (grow, enlarge), hair color (gray) or height (rise, raise). Starting out from a survey of dimensional verbs in German and French, the project investigates the interaction of verbs, adjectives, and nouns in the conceptual isolation of dimensions, taking into consideration extensional as well as intensional readings of the verbs. The investigation will include in-depth studies of German, French, Korean, Chinese, and Caribbean French-based creole languages.
