The Summer School is drawing close and so it's time to give you the information of how to get to our office and the student dorms (in case you have booked accommodation), and how to register on arrival. You can find general information here, instructions about how to get to the dorms here, and maps are located here. The Summer School office is located at building 23.21.00.44A (map), Universitaetstr. 1, 40225 Duesseldorf. You can call us at (0049)-0211-81-15063 or (0049)-0211-81-15065. Arrival: The best thing would be if you arrived on Saturday, July 13th, or Sunday, July 14th, preferably between 10:00am and 4pm. If you are planning on arriving earlier or later than these dates, please send us an email. All students must check in at the Summer School office on their arrival in Duesseldorf. Those who are signed up for a dorm room must also register at the dormitories. How to get to the University: Rhein-Ruhr Airport is located close to the city. It's just 15 minutes by S-Bahn from the Airport's underground station to Duesseldorf's Main Railway Station (Hauptbahnhof). In front of the station (Konrad-Adenauer-Square) you will find tram 707, direction "Universitaet" (press key "A" at the automatic ticket machine located at the tram stop). From there it takes another 20 minutes to reach "Universitaet Ost / Botanischer Garten". Signs will lead you the way to our office, as well as this map. These are orange and you can find them at the airport or the main station. The price of the ticket will then be shown on the display. Deposit that amount of money (change will be given if you deposit too much). Retrieve your ticket. When you get on the tram, stamp your ticket in one of the small machines provided (which are also rather orange). When you buy a ticket at the airport, it will be good for the train to the main station as well as for getting to the university. Procedure: It will probably be easiest if you first go to the student dorm (or wherever you are staying), put your luggage there, and then come and check in at the Summer School office. Of course you can also come to the office first. There will be the possibility of leaving your luggage in a room close to our's. At the office, you will receive your welcome package. This includes your personal schedule, some maps, a voucher for excursions if you have signed up and payed for them, and a name tag, which you are asked to wear during your stay. Also, if you still need to pay any fees, you will be asked to do that on checking in at our office. So please have the money ready (sorry, euro only)! Then we will ask those of you who have booked the opera package to pay their EUR30. On arrival you will also be asked whether you would like to participate in the opening event, which will take place at a city location at 6pm. This will be a good start for the weeks ahead so it would be great if as many of you as possible would join us. Departure: The last day of classes will be August 3rd. At night there will be some kind of party before everyone is leaving the next day. For those of you who are staying in the dorms, please arrange to leave on Sunday August 4 (preferably between 10am and 12 noon) at the latest. (Please note the rooms are needed again from the Monday and have to be cleaned before the new people can move in.) Dorms: On your arrival in Duesseldorf you can go directly to Struempellstrasse 6, house no. 13 where you will be shown your room, receive your key and be able to collect your bedding, kitchen equipment etc. Afterwards (or beforehand if you prefer - although this would involve having to carry your luggage back and forth!) you are asked to make your way to the Summer School office at the university (signposted) in order to register and receive various documents and bits of information.
