GENERAL LINGUISTICS

Master of Arts in Linguistics

Structure of the study programme

The postgraduate study program builds on the knowledge and skills students have acquired over the course of the structured undergraduate study programme in linguistics. It serves to further methodological and theoretical knowledge, familiarize students with current research and thus lays the foundation for their own scientific research. The furtherance of overall knowledge in this field of study entails a twofold specialisation. Firstly, students specialise on one linguistic field and secondly they focus their studies on the linguistics of one particular language. In addition to the linguistic studies as such, postgraduates enrolled in this programme improve their abilities in a foreign language of which they have basic or advanced knowledge. In line with current aspirations to increase the international outlook of the study programme, a considerable number of lectures are going to be held in English. Thanks to its focus on a linguistic subcategory as well as a specific language of interest, the study programme ranks among the world's best in its field. Additionally, the study programme comprises subject-specific pedagogical training in which postgraduate students provide tutorials for undergraduate students.
