Research

Our Research section contains information concerning our research projects, such as the Language@Internet publications, and all Habilitationen by members of our staff.

The field of Language and Law has become increasingly more important in recent years. Law and language are deeply interconnected, law being dependent on language to work. This field provides great opportunities for research in scholarly discourses and also finds practical application in the business world. Prof. Dr. Dieter Stein is doing extensive work in this area and has recently co-published two volumes on the different issues facing both lawyers and linguists. Additional work is being done by the newly-founded society for “Language and Law”, as well as in the society’s e-journal.

Dieter Stein recently published an article on "Weltsprache Englisch: Dominanz und Beherrschung."

Heidrun Dorgeloh’s special research interests include the interrelationship of grammar and discourse, especially across registers and text types, as well as the evolution of genres in their affinity with narrative structure. Research projects therefore concern usage and change of individual constructions within and across genres (see Habilitationsprojekt) as well as the relevance of genre and genre theory for the study of grammatical variation (project with Anja Wanner, UWM Madison).

We also provide information on open access and its impact on scholarly communication.
