Kurzbeschreibung des Projektes / Short description of the Project

This project is concerned with a close inspection and ultimate rejection of Bas van Fraassen’s conception of observability as well as his corresponding brand of empiricism. An alternative conception is put forth, one that seeks to allay the realist’s concerns about the validity of instrument-based observation in science yet preserves vital empiricist sensitivities. Along with the new conception of observability, I also lay the foundations for a new form of empiricism.
