Presuppositions

- A Bachelor of Arts degree (or a comparable degree) with a final grade not less than 2.5 (German
standard). Preferably English as core subject. English as complementary subject may also be
accepted.
- In case of a B.A. comparable degree:
Please bear in mind that this master program presupposes profound knowledge in English language,
English and/or American literature and/or linguistics. Literature and/or Linguistics should have
covered at least ¼ of your studies.
- Furthermore, students are expected to have written at least one academic term paper in English
language on English/American literature or linguistics.
The language of instruction in the master program is English. However, students from non-German
speaking institutions require proof of proficiency in German in the form of one of the following:
- DSH-2 or DSH-3
from a Goethe Institut:
- Kleines or Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom (basic or advanced language diploma)
- Zentrale Oberstufenprüfung (central, upper school level language test)
- Deutsches Sprachdiplom (German language diploma), level 2 as defined by the Conference of
German Cultural Ministers
- Test DaF (Test of German as a Foreign Language) with grade 5 or 4 in all individual parts
